Farming is important to us all.

Farmer Richard Spencer and John Foster on the tractor at Richard’s farm in Yorkshire.Fosters are not farmers, we’re bakers but we have been involved with local farmers for many years.     We don’t just simply buy our ingredients without caring where they originate.            Population growth and climate change are effecting the availability and price of food.         Oil is becoming more expensive and we are seeing flood and water shortages all over the world as well as locally.

Fosters don’t boast to be saving the planet but we are trying to do our bit.    Of course we do recycling and other energy saving stuff; we are from Yorkshire and well used to watching the pennies.   Rumour has it that Yorkshire men are the most environmentally friendly people on the planet because they are so mean that they only breathe in - hence they emit no Carbon dioxide.   ANYWAY …

We are currently participating in local trials with TAG (The Arable Group) based near Doncaster on some wheat growing trials, trying to reduce the use of nitrogen and sulphur based fertilizers in growing wheat.

This is the latest in a series of different initiatives over many years to improve the sustainability of British wheat production.     We choose wheat because that’s our biggest ingredient (flour)
